189 by Dominique Ansel

What if Claude Monet were to move to Los Angeles as a young man? This is an exploration of how he might capture the 'city of angels' in different lights and seasons, interpreted throughout the design of both floors. In contrast to its sister bakery downstairs which plays off of the shades of early light, 189 by Dominique Ansel evokes the feeling of the remains of the day; the time when one winds down to relax. Whether being entranced by the activity in the kitchen, tucking away in an intimate booth, unwinding at the sunset gradient bar, or breathing easy in the ‘garden’ lounge under the colorful greenery frozen in time which changes seasonally along with the ingredients.

SIZE

4,927 sq. ft. interior

Natural light floods an intimate part of the dining area, evoking a courtyard space replete with greenery hanging down and painted concrete tiles underfoot.

Hand-painted murals on the interior of the apses swirl like evening reflections on water in a Monet painting.

Dividing the main dining space in two is an oval shaped island bar; the warm glow of the illuminated glass over-bar, and cool gradient of the bar face allude to the variation of colors seen during a sunset.
